Messages from Jesus in the Bible

Jesus Words from the Bible – Study

1. The Kingdom of God

Jesus’ primary message was the coming of the Kingdom of God—a divine realm where God reigns supreme, and His will is done perfectly.

The Nature of the Kingdom

Jesus described the Kingdom as both a present reality and a future hope.

  • "Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, ‘The kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say, “See here!” or “See there!” For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.’" (Luke 17:20-21)
  • "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here." (John 18:36)

How to Enter the Kingdom

Jesus emphasised repentance, humility, and rebirth as necessary steps to enter the Kingdom.

  • "From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.’" (Matthew 4:17)
  • "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." (John 3:3)
  • "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:3-4)

The Value of the Kingdom

Jesus used parables to illustrate the incomparable worth of the Kingdom.

  • "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it." (Matthew 13:44-46)

2. Love and Relationships

Jesus’ teachings on love form the core of His message, calling His followers to reflect God’s love in all relationships.

The Greatest Commandment

  • "‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." (Matthew 22:37-40)

Love for Enemies

Jesus redefined love, extending it to those who oppose or mistreat us.

  • "But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust." (Matthew 5:44-45)

Forgiveness

Forgiveness is a hallmark of Christlike love.

  • "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." (Matthew 6:14-15)
  • "Then Peter came to Him and said, ‘Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.’" (Matthew 18:21-22)

3. Faith and Trust in God

Jesus called His followers to unwavering faith in God’s goodness and care.

Faith in God’s Provision

  • "Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?" (Matthew 6:25-26)
  • "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." (Matthew 6:33-34)

Faith that Moves Mountains

  • "So Jesus said to them, ‘Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, “Be removed and be cast into the sea,” and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.’" (Mark 11:22-23)

4. Prayer and Worship

Prayer is the lifeline of a believer, and Jesus provided instructions and examples for communion with God.

The Lord’s Prayer

  • "In this manner, therefore, pray:
    ‘Our Father in heaven,
    Hallowed be Your name.
    Your kingdom come.
    Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
    And forgive us our debts,
    As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’"
    (Matthew 6:9-13)

Persistence in Prayer

  • "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened." (Matthew 7:7-8)

Worship in Spirit and Truth

  • "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." (John 4:24)

5. Humility and Servanthood

Jesus demonstrated humility through His life and taught servanthood as the pathway to greatness.

Greatness Through Service

  • "Whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." (Matthew 20:26-28)

Humility Before God

  • "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth." (Matthew 5:5)
  • "Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." (Matthew 23:12)

6. Obedience and Holiness

Jesus called His followers to align their lives with God’s will and pursue holiness.

Doing God’s Will

  • "Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven." (Matthew 7:21)

Holiness and Purity

  • "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." (Matthew 5:8)
  • "Be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect." (Matthew 5:48)

7. Warnings and Judgements

Repentance

  • "Unless you repent, you will all likewise perish." (Luke 13:3, 5)

The Narrow Way

  • "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." (Matthew 7:13-14)

About Bible Bytes

At Bible Bytes, I explore the Word of God, breaking down key scriptures, messages, and biblical concepts to deepen my understanding—and hopefully help others along the way. While I write many of these reflections myself, I also make use of AI to assist with summarising, explaining, and organising certain passages and themes.

AI is simply a tool to support my study, but my faith and personal interpretation remain at the heart of everything I share. My goal is to make biblical principles more accessible, thought-provoking, and relevant to everyday life. I encourage you to engage with the content, reflect on the Word for yourself, and grow in your own faith journey.

Blessings,
Nicus
